INTAGLIETTA, M., D. R. RICHARDSON, AND W. R. TOMPKINS, Blood pressure, flow, and ehtic properties in microvessels of cut omentum. Am. J. Physiol. 221(3): 922-928. 1971.-Pressure was measured in vivo in the microvessels of the cat omentum with a servonulling instrument. Velocity of red blood cells was determined simultaneously by an online dual-slit photometric technique. Cross correlation with the pressure recorded in the abdominal aorta allowed reconstruction of wave forms and preservation of phase shifts. Pulsatile components were found to persist through the microcirculation. The phase shift was found to increase progressively toward the venous end, suggesting that pulsatile components are transmitted along the vascular tree. Since the phase shift found corresponds to that of a very compliant microvasculature, it is suggested that the Starling type balance between colloid and hydraulic pressures in conjunction with the magnitude of the filtration constant produces a compliancelike effect as a consequence of the pulsatile pressure prevalent: in the microcirculation.

Quantitative studies of microcirculatory structure and function. III. Microvascular hemodynamics of cat mesentery and rabbit omentum.

We made simultaneous measurements of intravascular pressure and red blood cell velocity for vessels which make up the modular configuration of microvascular networks in mesentery and omentum. An analysis of these variables and the computed volumetric flow rates is presented for arterioles which had a maximum diameter of 56 micrometer through the "true capillaries" (typically 7 micrometer for me...

Physiol. 226(5) : 1117-l 123. 1974.-Pulsatile pressure and red cell velocities were measured throughout the microvasculature of the rabbit omentum as a function of the order of branching. The data were analyzed in terms of a network model...

Presentation of a Non-invasive Method of Estimating Arterial Stiffness by Modeling Blood Flow and Arterial Wall Based on the Determination of Elastic Module of Arterial Wall

Introduction: Arterial stiffness is an important predictor of cardiovascular risk. Several indices have been  introduced to estimate the arterial stiffness based on the changes in the brachial blood pressure. Since the  substitution  of  the  blood  pressure  changes  in  the  central  arteries  such  as  carotid  with  the  blood  pressure  changes in the brachial results in error in the blood...

Modeling and investigating the effect of ultrasound waves pressure on the microbubble oscillation dynamics in microvessels containing an incompressible fluid (Research Article)

Understanding the dynamics of microbubble oscillation in an elastic microvessel is important for the safe and effective applications of ultrasound contrast agents in imaging and therapy. Numerical simulations based on 2D finite element model are performed to investigate the effect of acoustic parameters such as pressure and frequency on the dynamic interaction of the fluid-blood-vessel system. ...

Mathematical modelling of Sisko fluid flow through a stenosed ‎artery

In the present study, the nonlinear model of non-Newtonian blood flow in cosine-shape stenosed elastic artery is numerically examined. The model is carried out for axisymmetric, two-dimensional and fully developed blood flow. The vessel wall is assumed to be have time-dependent radius that is important factor for study of blood flow. The cosine-shape stenosis convert to rigid artery by using a ...
